My name is Hitomi. I am an explorer, a collector, a storytelling ninja. I travel the world collecting stories and memories and dreams. I have visited ancient cities and mythical lands, journeyed to the future and to the past. I have met fools and wise men, assassins, thieves and queens. I have witnessed wars and scientific breakthroughs; great devastation and the sweetest, gentlest acts of kindness.
I believe that the world is made up of tiny stories – and that every object, every place, every age and every being has a story to tell.
I collect stories because they bind us together and bring us hope.
Will you explore the realm of stories with me?
Sensei says: Get Reel is a series of workshops that explores the concept of narrative – in film, games, animation, books, graphic novels and performance art. Participants read and analyze these artifacts; learn about character, setting, plot and point of view; and engage in a process of developing their own narratives and producing their own media.
Storytelling exercises are both individual and collaborative. Participants are encouraged – and challenged – to push our understanding of storytelling; to engage their audience in novel ways; to give voice to their own experiences and shed light on issues relevant to their communities.
